Dear Parents and Carers 07/10/2021
Mufti Day
Tomorrow, Friday 8th October, will be a Mufti Day in order to raise money for the PTA. Please send in a donation of at least £1. Some of this will be used to buy prizes for the Chocolate Bingo event that they are running tomorrow night.
Welcome to the classroom.
Next Wednesday morning, 13th October, classrooms will be ‘open’ for you to come in and share some of the learning they have been doing so far this term. Once the children have been registered, the classroom doors will be open between 9-10am for you to drop in for a short visit. If you have more than one child you are welcome to each of their classrooms.
Parent Consultation Meetings
Parent Consultation Meetings will take place in the school hall on Wednesday 20th October 2pm-7pm (break 4.30 – 5pm). Booking will be via ParentMail and will go live on Wednesday 13th October at approximately 9am. If you are going to find this a struggle, do speak to the teacher and they will try to accommodate you at another time or online. If you have a child with an EHCP, please arrange a separate meeting on a different day as you will need a longer time slot. The children will be supervised by assistant teachers from 2pm.
Internet Safety
Peter Cowley, Achieving for Children’s Lead Adviser for Online Services and Safety, will be leading some internet safety training for parents on Wednesday 3rd November after drop off 9am-10am in the hall. We cannot recommend this enough, he is extremely knowledgeable and personable and his material is always very current. We know this can be a minefield so taking the time to listen to him is really worth it. The PTA will be providing coffee too.
Brass Demo
On Tuesday Mike Searby came in and led our music assembly, teaching the children all about the brass family and showcasing lots of different brass instruments to lots of well-known theme tunes and pieces. It was wonderful and the children and staff really enjoyed it! If your child has been inspired to take up a brass instrument and you are interested in lessons please contact the Richmond Music Trust at https://www.richmondmusictrust.org.uk/site/tuition/learn-with-us/

Zehra Hicks
A few weeks ago the author Zehra Hicks came into school to share her books and inspire years 1, 2 and 3 to be writers and illustrators. She also talked about how she was going to be running the London Marathon to raise money for Mental Health. She has sent some photographs of herself on the marathon route and wanted to pass on her thanks to those who donated when she visited.
LAMDA
We have been approached to see if parents/children would be interested in school making LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) classes available from January. LAMDA builds confidence, public speaking and performance skills and classes could be available, depending on demand, for children in all year groups from Reception to year 6. Children would follow LAMDA’S Verse and Prose syllabus and would work towards a graded LAMDA exam plus the opportunity to perform in a yearly Speech and Drama Festival. Each half hour weekly session would cost £10.
If you are interested, please contact Mrs Bell cbell@htprimary.com to enable us to work out if there is sufficient interest to make this viable or if you want more information about LAMDA then contact info@armstrongspeechanddrama.com or see https://www.armstrongspeechanddrama.com
MHST Workshop: Separation anxiety
Does your child or young person really struggle to separate from you when they go to school? Following lockdown, a lot of children and young people are finding it hard to separate from parents and caregivers. The MHST will be running a live 90 minute workshop on separation anxiety for parents/carers. The aim of this workshop is to help you identify anxious behaviours, think about what maintains these and provide you with some ideas on what you can do to help your child or young person overcome these challenges.
The MHST will be running one workshop over 2 dates (please note, it will be the same workshop offered on each date). Please book your tickets for one workshop using the Eventbrite link below.
