At Holy Trinity, we value Art and Design as an integral part of a child’s entitlement to a broad, balanced and interesting curriculum. Art and Design provides our children with opportunities to develop and extend skills and the chance to creatively express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas across a range of mediums.
The key skills that the curriculum explores are built upon from Reception to Year 6 through different, engaging projects. The expectations and outcomes become progressively more sophisticated and challenging as time goes on. During their time at Holy Trinity, a child will have exposure to high-quality work of well known artists and designers through which they will utilise, develop and practise the following skills:

A key aim is that these skills, paired with an appreciation and enjoyment of the arts, will remain with our learners long after they leave Holy Trinity allowing them to explore these avenues in the future.
The Art and Design curriculum develops the children’s awareness and enjoyment of artwork from a range of cultures and periods of art history. This is further enhanced during our whole school ‘Arts Week’ which explores learning across a range of styles and techniques.
At Holy Trinity we utilise sketch books from Reception to Year 6 to provide children with a space to practise and experiment with ideas and techniques prior to embarking on final pieces. Sketch books also allow children to look back and evaluate their own personal progress. We encourage children to express themselves creatively and also provide them with artistic vocabulary to better articulate their thoughts and feelings about art.
