Welcome to our Outdoor Area!
The doors in Rainbow class are always open, whatever the weather, which enables the children to explore inside and outside at their own leisure. We love to follow the child’s interest and let them choose where they would like to explore. This gives them the most wonderful ownership over their learning and creates a fantastic child-led learning approach.
Another opportunity to create something outside under the shelter. This station is filled with a huge variety of resources, junk modelling, scissors, sellotape and glue each day, so that the children can create anything they would like.
We have two outdoor construction areas, one under the shelter and another bigger one around the corner. The sheltered one has lots of different challenges and suggestions for the children to build. The outdoor one has a huge variety of resources and costumes for the children to explore further. We have pipes, wooden planks, milk crates, tubes, bamboo ramps, tyres, bricks and lots more for the children to create whatever they would like. We also have high vis jackets and yellow
Ahoiiiiii me harty’s! Welcome aboard the Rainbow Express! Grab a hat and sail the seven seas on a pirate adventure. Can the children use the wooden sticks and ramps to build a plank? Be careful not to upset the captain, or they may have to walk it!
A space to try out new recipes and more! We rotate recipe cards each week and add resources as necessary (lemons, lavender, petals etc!) so that the children can always have the opportunity to explore something new. We have the microwave, toaster and cooking station. There are always aprons out to protect their clothing too, as it does get messy in the mud kitchen! But, that’s when you know they are having a good time!
We have a selection of cars and bikes out for the children to use. Each car, bike and scooter has a special number that matches its parking space, so they can park their car whilst working on their number recognition too.
We have a mark making shed and a maths shed. These are both filled with lots of lovely resources to encourage early maths and writing skills. The maths shed is filled with number cards, counting objects, shapes, scales and more! The writing shed has a variety of different fine motor and writing resources, including letters, threading beads, clipboards and more. The sheds are open and accessible for the children to choose what resources they would like, when they would like to use them.
Uh-Oh! Goldilocks has been in town and has eaten the porridge again! Can the children make some more for the Bears before they come home and realise it’s gone?! The Bear’s Cottage is another wonderful area for the children to play and explore.
Playground – Our playground has a wonderful road for the children to follow when using the cars/bikes/scooters/exploring in general! We fill the inside of the road with a variety of different activities for the children to enjoy. These activities rotate daily. Some days it’s den building, others it’s parachute games, others it’s building a city and many more! We love to keep things fresh for the children, but also follow their interests and adapt the
Working wall – Along the back of the fence we have our ‘Working Wall’. On this, there are a huge variety of resources, musical instruments and challenges for the children to explore. It is always set up and ready for the children to use at their leisure.
Castle – Another creative role play area for the children to explore. We fill the castle with dressing up clothes and story books for the children to enjoy.
The climbing frame on the grass is accessible all year round. It has lots of different challenges on it to develop the children’s gross motor and balancing skills.
Just like the inside area, our outdoor water area has resources out for the children to explore as they wish. We have a special tunnel with a pump so that the children can wash the cars.
Wellie rack – We have a selection of spare wellies for the children to wear if they would like when the weather is rainy, so they can jump and splash in puddles and stay dry. We also have all-in-one rain suits for the children to wear, which we always use on Forest School Days.
We love our outdoor area and can’t wait to explore it with you! In rain or shine, we love to get outside and have fun by learning through PLAY!
